Not Selected
Admission to Cal Poly is highly selective, and the size and strength of our applicant pool means that we are unable to admit all qualified candidates. Because we are an impacted campus, our selection processes uses an objective, comprehensive review process that extends beyond the basic eligibility index utilized by the California State University. This means that many CSU-eligible students are unable to be offered admission.
Options for First-Year Non-Selected Students
If you are not selected for admission to Cal Poly, you should consider admission offers you have received from other universities or look into one of the following alternatives:
Transferring to Cal Poly
You may consider transferring to Cal Poly when you have met the admission requirements as an upper-division transfer applicant. Pay attention to our transfer selection criteria and work with the transfer center or counseling office at your community college to develop a plan to help you be competitive in the transfer admission process.
Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT)
The California Community Colleges and California State University collaborated to create the Associate Degree for Transfer program. These degrees are designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate degree.
California Community College students who are awarded an AA-T or AS-T degree are guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system. However, this does not guarantee admission to specific majors or campuses.
Redirection
If you are a CSU-eligible California resident who has been waitlisted or denied admission due to campus or program impaction, you may have the opportunity to be redirected to a non-impacted campus. The CSU will inform of you of available campuses via email.
Appeals
If you feel there is new and compelling information that might affect our decision, you may submit an appeal. If you were denied admission or missed an admissions deadline, it is unlikely that our decision will be reversed. Appeals must be submitted no later than 15 days after receipt of your original admission decision.
