Annual Service Awards at the PAC
State, Cal Poly Partners and ASI employees with milestone service anniversaries in 2024 will be honored at the Annual Service Awards at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Performing Arts Center Miossi Hall, followed by a reception in the Performing Arts Center Main Lobby (appetizers will be served). View the program for a complete listing of awardees. All attendees are required to RSVP no later than Friday, Feb. 28, to attend. There is no cost to attend the ceremony or reception. Last Call for Nominations
The deadline for nominations for the Outstanding Staff Award was extended one last time to Friday, Feb. 14. The award is presented annually by the Office of the President to three staff members who demonstrate service and commitment to the university that truly set them apart. The award is an opportunity for individuals who are admired by their colleagues and who inspire others to be recognized for their efforts in a public and meaningful way. Eligibility and selection criteria can be found and submitted on the Human Resources website.

Cal Poly College Corps Program
Application Period Open for 25-26 Academic Year
Faculty and staff are encouraged to share the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps Program with students. This statewide initiative allows students to tackle community issues such as climate action, K-12 education and food insecurity while creating debt-free college pathways. In return for serving 450 hours over the academic year, students will earn $10,000. They’ll gain hands-on experience, apply academic learning and possibly fulfill internship or senior project requirements. The program is open to full-time undergraduate students from all majors. Transfer Center
Staff and Faculty Transfer Inclusion Training
The Transfer Center will host Transfer Inclusion Training for interested staff and faculty who would like to learn more about Cal Poly transfer students. This training will discuss transfer student needs, identify obstacles and challenges, and highlight some helpful strategies you can implement in your own interactions with transfer students. This training will be one hour, virtual, and offered multiple days and times throughout the rest of the winter quarter. Questions, please contact the Transfer Center transfer@calpoly.edu.

Campus Beautification Initiative
Utility Box Art Project
Applications are now being accepted for the Utility Box Art Project, a campus beautification initiative transforming utility boxes into works of public art to enhance the vibrancy of the campus and showcase local talent. All students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to submit an application via email to af@calpoly.edu. Applications are due Feb. 28. Selected artists will be notified in March and will receive a $250 VISA gift card to cover necessary materials.

Cal Poly Mustang Band
To Perform in Chinese New Year Parade
The Mustang Band has been invited for the 10th time to participate in the Alaska Airlines Chinese New Year Parade — named by the International Festivals and Events Association as one of the top 10 parades in the world — on Saturday, Feb. 15, in San Francisco. The band has more than 220 members, from academic disciplines across the campus. The event will be broadcast live on ABC 7 and streamed on Hulu. Before the parade, the band will continue the tradition of performing with the UC Davis Marching Band in front of the landmark Ferry Building.

Awarded by Laboratory Industry Association
COLA, a leading national laboratory accreditor, has awarded Cal Poly Campus Health and Wellbeing (CH&W) its Laboratory Excellence Award following a recent survey of the university’s health center lab in January. The CH&W laboratory team – which consists of Lisa Clift, Lynn McGuigan, Brecken Ancheta, Stephanie McKee, Briana Gros, Steven Kung and Lynn DePauw – received the highest commendation for “performing quality patient testing and superior overall laboratory practices,” according to COLA.

Over the past three decades, Cal Poly has implemented several initiatives that have taken the campus closer to its goals of carbon neutrality by 2045, zero waste and water resiliency. This ongoing process will require a commitment from students, faculty and staff. One easy step the campus community can take is to reduce landfill-bound waste by disposing it in the proper bin. Black History Celebration United by Excellence – Feb 14
Strategic Enrollment Management’s (SEM) admissions and recruitment team will host over 150 high school scholars from partnering school districts at the Black History Celebration, United by Excellence: Love, Legacy and Culture event Friday, Feb. 14. The all-day college readiness conference is dedicated to instilling college-going culture and increasing higher education preparation experiences for historically underserved and underrepresented student populations. The day includes Learn by Doing workshops, Black History Celebration and Resource Fair, performances by the Mustang Band and Drumline, and more. Faculty and staff are welcome to engage with students from 8:45-9:15 a.m. or between 12:45-1:15 p.m. at Chumash Auditorium.

International Center Hosts Passport Event March 5
Passport to the World
Cal Poly will open doors to global opportunities for students, faculty and staff at the fourth annual Passport Event, hosted by the International Center on March 5 in the ATL/Keck Lab. Up to 100 eligible students will receive their U.S. passport for free at the event, which will cover the $165 application fee, thanks to the generous support of co-sponsors CIEE and all six Cal Poly colleges. Faculty and staff are also eligible to renew their passports by completing the form below.

Kennedy Library Transformation Team
Q&A – Feb. 13
On Thursday, Feb. 13, the Kennedy Library Transformation team will host a Q&A, or ‘Ask Me Anything’ on their Instagram story. This is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to get their most pressing questions about the Kennedy Library Transformation answered. The Q&A will go live at 9 a.m. and the community will be able to ask questions for 24 hours. The team will post the answers to these questions the following week.

Environmental Advocate and Storyteller
23rd Annual Change the Status Quo Speaker Series
Isabel Valentín, Puerto Rican environmental advocate and storyteller, will speak Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium. A former youth leader with Para la Naturaleza, Valentín has worked to connect communities to Puerto Rico's ecosystems and advance climate justice. Through partnerships with Earthjustice and platforms like Vogue's TOKALA panel, she has amplified the voices of marginalized communities. This event, part of the Center for Service in Action's Social Justice and Service Speaker Series, aims to inspire students to challenge social norms and drive lasting change. Admission is free and open to the public.

STAR DUST: From Bach to Bowie
Led by dance icons Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, this New York-based, award-winning dance company known for multicultural mix of classical and contemporary dancers presents their blockbuster hit Star Dust: From Bach to Bowie. This ballet takes an array of his hits and lays a visual imprint, inspired by his unique personas and his restless invention artistically – to create a Rock Opera style production paying homage to the iconic and chameleonic spirit of what can only be described as: BOWIE. This event has a 20% staff and faculty discount available.

Cal Poly Report (CPR) is Cal Poly's official employee newsletter, designed to communicate information about officially sanctioned university news or events to faculty, staff and administrators.
All announcements, events and other listings and information must be faculty- and/or staff-focused. Submissions may run only one time — with the exception of Catastrophic Leave announcements and Employment Opportunities, which can run up to two consecutive weeks. Items are strictly limited to 100 words and should, whenever possible, provide a link to additional information online.
To help ensure CPR continues to contain only relevant and approved information, submissions are required to come from or be approved by the employee designated to approve submissions in the respective colleges, units and work areas. Entries submitted by those other than the designated approver must be accompanied by an approval form signed by the unit's approver. CPR is published on Wednesdays weekly during the school year, except during academic breaks, and monthly in the summer. The deadline for each issue is 5 p.m. the Thursday prior to publication.
