Cal Grant GPA Verification
In order to qualify for a Cal Grant, your GPA must be verified by the California Student Aid Commission.
High School Seniors
California law requires that all public and charter high schools electronically upload GPAs to the CSAC (California Student Aid Commission) for Cal Grant consideration for current enrolled seniors that do not opt-out. GPAs are only accepted by high schools that are fully accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges or other regionally accrediting agency, or have a University of California (UC) approved course list.
If you graduated high school in a previous year, you must submit a certified GPA from your public or private High School by the March 2nd deadline. The CSAC website has more information.
Current Cal Poly Student Applying for Cal Grant for the First Time
If you are a current student and do not currently have a Cal Grant, Cal Poly will submit your GPA to CSAC for Cal Grant consideration if:
- You are an undergraduate or a credential student.
- You have completed at least 36* units at Cal Poly by the end of fall. (Test credits do not count toward 36).
- You do not already have a Cal Grant award (students who already have a Cal Grant are not required to complete a GPA verification).
- You are not on financial aid probation or academic probation.
- We have your valid Social Security number on file.
- You are enrolled at least half-time Winter Quarter of current academic year.
- Cal Poly receives your completed FAFSA before the third Monday in February.
First-year students, including transfers, with less than 36 units completed at Cal Poly by the end of the Fall Quarter will need to contact their former high school or community college and ask them to submit the GPA Verification electronically or certify a paper GPA verification form.
If you have completed 36 units, but do not meet all the above criteria, you may email the Financial Aid Office and request to be included in the GPA verification report to CSAC. The Financial Aid Office must receive your email request before the third Monday in February.
